The administration is actively talking with China to get a "fair deal," Trump says (edition.cnn.com)

President Donald Trump told reporters today that his administration is actively engaged in trade talks with China and that negotiations with multiple countries “are going very well.”

Speaking informally outside the White House, Trump predicted the United States would reach a “fair deal” with Beijing, noting that “everything’s in motion” on the trade front.

“Every country wants to join in—even those that have taken advantage of us for many years,” he said. “China is one example, but it’s not the only one; the European Union has done the same. Those days are over.”

He also claimed the U.S. would “be able to lower taxes substantially.”

Regarding the trade standoff with China, the president yesterday hinted at a possible shift in strategy, saying the steep tariffs on Chinese goods “will come down substantially—though not to zero.” His comments mark a softer tone after weeks of hard‑line rhetoric and tit‑for‑tat measures that had pushed tariffs on Chinese imports past 145 percent.
